Supervision

Increase your understanding & confidence and develop practical strategies

It is estimated that  1% of the Scottish population is autistic and approximately 3-5% has ADHD and that 1 in 7 of the UK population is neurodivergent. This means that a significant proportion of  the people who come for therapy is neurodivergent.

Therapist training courses rarely address any kind of difference in ways that are meaningful to actual practice. It can be daunting when you’re working with a neurodivergent client for whom you want to do your best,  but you’re not sure if what you’re doing is actually best practice.

  • Maybe you’ve met a couple of neurodivergent people, and you’ve also heard the adage ‘If you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person’ so you know one size most definitely does not fit all?

  • Perhaps you’ve read some books, attended some CPD but you’re not quite sure how to translate theory into practice?

  • Or maybe you’ve noticed your neurodivergent clients don’t stay with you for very long and you’re not sure why?

Whatever your understanding and experience of working with neurodivergent clients, I’m looking forward to working with you: together we’ll develop your skills and understanding so that you feel confident that you are a neuro-affirming professional who works ethically to support your clients.

Consultation, training and supervision were a big part of my life when I was a teacher within autism outreach and I loved being able to work with education staff who were keen to support and understand their neurodivergent students. Seeing the relief when someone was able to admit in a safe place that they weren't sure if they were doing a helpful thing, and then watching the positive ripple effect when small but hugely significant neuro-affirming changes were made, was always a joy for me.

I'm delighted to now bring the same to my therapy practice  as a qualified clinical supervisor.  I've been facilitating ad hoc training and consultation for many years, and now that I'm offering supervision as well, I'm really hoping to support more people so that they can become genuinely more neuro-affirming, confident that their practical approaches are based in good understanding.

I can be your main supervisor, or work with you specifically in regard to your neurodivergent clients. I can also offer ad-hoc sessions – after many years of arriving at a school without knowing what was waiting for me, I’m very happy to get straight to the heart of things!

Supervision costs £60 per hour for ongoing supervisees and £75 an hour for ad-hoc sessions.
